Standard Bank Pigeon Jazz in The City

Johannesburg looks set to enjoy the Joy of Jazz with a festival of unpredictable, soulful and abstract music in August. In order to promote the festival, TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris decided to recruit some unlikely musicians – the city’s pigeon population.

 

Together with production company Hey!Fever, they rigged up an installation consisting of a keyboard, drum kit, bass and guitar and left it to the mercy of the aspiring avian musicians, who plucked, strummed and pecked their way through a bit of abstract be-bop. A scattering of seeds helped attract the feathered funksters.

 

The Joy of Jazz festival has been going strong for 13 years in Johannesburg’s Newtown Precinct and, over the years, has grown the number of up-and-coming young jazz artists performing in the festival.
