Creative content studio brings in 2 award-winning directors

Squire – the new creative content studio that focuses on branded content opportunities within the intersection of advertising, music and broadcast – can today announce the signing of two new award-winning directors: Deane Thrussell and Rodney Rascona.

Former BBC editor Deane Thrussell is a hands-on director and cinematographer who has helmed global campaigns for Aston Martin, Barclays, Pepsi, Land Rover, Xbox and Jaguar. In 2013 Thrussell was given the Royal Television Society’s ‘Effects – Special’ award for his work as cinematographer on Red Dwarf X.

Thrussell is a versatile craftsman who balances a passion for artistic purity with the science of cinema. Specialising in 3D and high-speed work, he has a technically integrated approach to direction and production. He is adept at operating in a seamless way, self-sufficiently and rigorously encompassing the whole spectrum, from concept to delivery.

Veteran photographer and director, Rodney Rascona, is best known for creating poignant strategic imagery, both via stills and motion work. His advertising portfolio features dramatic stills photography for brands such as DHL, Hyatt and Rockwell. But Rascona has also been tasked with crafting compassionate film content to drive global awareness around tragedies like the 2010 Haitian earthquake and humanitarian causes such as women’s rights in Congo.

Rascona’s film for the UN, Black Inside, was awarded the prestigious ‘Grand Prix – Best Corporate Film’ at the 2013 Deauville Green Awards and earned him personal recognition during UN Week. In 2011, Rascona was awarded ‘International Photographer of the Year: Deeper Perspective’ by the Lucie Foundation. His most recent project is a short film for FH Congo/USAID and he is currently developing documentaries in Latin America and East Africa.

Squire’s executive producer, Phil Tidy, said: “We’ve worked with Deane for years. As well as being super talented, he's a lovely chap and very well connected. He’s a rare breed, being both a vastly accomplished director and an RTS award-winning cinematographer. And then there’s Rodney; another incredibly gifted and interesting addition to the roster. We’re very much looking forward to introducing his breathtaking aesthetic into the world of branded content.”

Squire’s MD, JT, said: “Both Deane and Rodney have unexpected and diverse backgrounds, making them the perfect embodiment of how Squire is aiming to disrupt the traditional production model with an agile and multi-disciplinary outlook.”

Thrussell and Rascona join Spov, François & Joe, Mr Kaplin, Jess Scott-Hunter, Simon Henwood, Chris Ullens and Trick on the Squire roster, bringing the company’s director tally up to nine.
