Wieden + Kennedy Portland, Park Pictures and The Mission have teamed up on the gridiron with a swift-footed new spot for Nike and Dick’s Sporting Goods. ‘Fly’ marks another successful collaboration between The Mission, Park Pictures director/DP Ellen Kuras and Wieden + Kennedy. The Mission handled pre-visualization, set supervision, colour grading, digital set reconstruction (including crowds), effects transitions and the graphic end-tag treatment.
‘Fly’ opens at game time on a football field, tracking low as a voiceover intones, “A hundred yards is a hundred yards. 60-minutes doesn’t get longer or shorter. You score points on Friday the same way you score points on Sunday.” We see a receiver take off, lighting-fast down the field, then transitioning to practice, then to another player at practice, then another. The voiceover continues, “The rules say it’s eleven players against eleven players, but the rules don’t say anything about how fast they can be.” We see a speedy receiver redirect his route in practice, then back in a game to catch a pass. We cut to the Nike football collection and the supers “Every run, route, play. Every season at Dick’s.” The spot closes with the voiceover “Gear up at Dick’s Sporting Goods” and the Dick’s logo.
