Sonos is offering space for nonprofits to raise awareness of its causes

This holiday season, Sonos is harnessing its premium content platform, Sonos Radio, offering complimentary ad space to nonprofits to help them raise awareness for their causes. If you’re unfamiliar, Sonos Radio is Sonos’ free music streaming service, and is the 4th most listened to service on the Sonos platform.

From November 20th to November 30th, Sonos Radio is dedicating 25% of its ad inventory to nonprofit promotions. After November 30th, Sonos will continue to donate 5% of its ad space to nonprofit organisations that are aligned with our social impact mission.

In addition, Sonos will also be donating 10% of its Giving Tuesday revenue - up to $175,000 USD - to nonprofits dedicated to creating positive change and building strength in their communities through music.

Deji Olukotun, policy and social impact, Sonos: “We fundamentally believe in the power of music to effect positive change. This past year, we’ve been deeply inspired by acts of bravery, resilience, and hope as people have confronted difficult situations and helped heal their families and neighbours. In the face of this, we have decided to expand our social impact program Soundwave and are excited to welcome nine new nonprofits to the Soundwaves family. These organisations all have one thing in common—they create positive change and build strength in communities through the power of music.”

Ryan Taylor, GM, Sonos Radio: “Many nonprofits are encountering severe funding constraints at this critical moment and we are honoured to step up. We have a tremendous respect for these organisations and we’re pleased to be able to give them a platform to help raise awareness of the amazing work they are doing, not just on Giving Tuesday, but all year round.”

Denise Burnside, executive director, Seattle Musicians Access to Sustainable Healthcare: “Sonos understands that to have a vibrant local music scene we need healthy musicians and has backed up that belief by supporting SMASH’s mission since 2018. When the pandemic hit earlier this year, SMASH immediately pivoted and launched mental health services, funding a minimum of eight therapy sessions per member musician. Sonos provided a matching gift grant that helped us raise significantly more at the launch of these services and SMASH was able to provide therapy sessions through the summer and fall of 2020.

With the mental health of the nation continuing to be affected by Covid-19 and social distancing, Sonos is continuing its support for local musicians’ health with a $20,000 grant. At SMASH, this level of support can provide 15 member musicians with a minimum of 8 mental health therapy sessions and five members musicians with a doctor visit and lab work. Together, we take care of musicians because music takes care of us.”
