Sugarman is the award-winning director behind this year’s feel-good hit ‘Save The Cinema’

Snapper Films welcome the feature film director, Sara Sugarman, to its commercial roster. Sugarman is the award-winning director behind this year’s feel-good hit ‘Save The Cinema’, a story about how one strong-willed welsh woman (Samantha Morton) embarked on a mission to save their local cinema and, in doing so, discovers the true power of community. Sugarman is a strong-willed, spiky-haired, punk-rocking, Jewish, Welsh woman whose sense of community and connection thumps at the heart of all she creates. The soulful film captures the eternal magic of the movies. It is bursting with community spirit and big 80s hairstyles.

Sugarman is a triptych of talents, an Actor, Writer and Director who won the medal for best actress at Rada. She has won the International Film maker's prize at the Sundance Film Festival, the HBO filmmaker prize at the HBO comedy festival and the Orange Prize for screenwriting. These awards hurled her straight into Hollywood, where she directed Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen with Lyndsey Lohan, a Box Office hit that made 9 million in the first week. She then returned to her rockstar roots to write and direct ‘Vinyl’, a comedy about an ageing Welsh rock group who uses a younger punk band as a trojan horse to smuggle their new songs into the charts. Sugarman spent her teenage years spiking her hair with sugar and water to front her punk band, ‘The Fractures’, so we can see why the true story drew her in. She is currently working on “Midas Man”, the biopic of the Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein.

As a director, Sugarman’s warmth, spectacular wit and irresistible energy shine through all her work. She creates captivating films that are riddled with joy and seeped in truth. She is looking to create commercials that use the power of persuasion to ignite compassion and connection. Given her track record, her pioneering passion and her overall vibe, we think she will have a lot to offer the UK commercials industry.

Helen Hadfield comments: "At Snapper we love a trailblazer, and Sara is a perfect fit, a visionary whose sense of joy is infectious. We are beyond excited to bring her immense talent, fizzing creativity and revolutionary spirit to the world of commercial filmmaking. We have no doubt that her knack for obtaining wonderfully raw performances and igniting warmth across all she does will translate beautifully into short-form storytelling."
