O’Meally illustrates the curiosity of boyhood while the deterioration of a young man appears simultaneously

SMUGGLER director, Fenn O'Meally, directs the poetic visuals for ‘Build Me A Way’, the latest release from Bakar.

Portraying a story of manhood and boyhood side by side, O’Meally illustrates the curiosity of boyhood while the deterioration of a young man appears simultaneously. Through her delicate storytelling, O’Meally brings a strangely uncomfortable feel as she portrays the numbness of the young man as he disconnects from himself, his mind and where he comes from. Bittersweet, this film is a reminder that our roots are where our greatest strengths lie; the sweet curiosity of boyhood immersed in the traditions of his culture, against the sickening disconnected state of early manhood, far from the roots he came from.

Shot on 16mm, O’Meally and DOP, Paul Özgür, create rich, poetically powerful visuals as they capture the delicate story through beautiful black and white imagery.

Continuing to receive global acclaim for her authenticity and craft as a filmmaker, Fenn O’Meally continues to demonstrate her one-of-a-kind poetic approach to the medium of film as she directs ‘Build Me A Way’ for Bakar.
