Sky Broadband Partners with ‘200 Level Default Deathrun’ in Fortnite for Launch of Gigafest

Sky Broadband is making its metaverse debut with a takeover of the infamous ‘200 Level Default Deathrun’ in Fortnite, a virtual race to celebrate the launch of Sky Broadband Gigafast. Developed collaboratively by Sky Broadband, Mediacom and WPP’s Hogarth Metaverse Foundry and facilitated by SuperAwesome, the Sky Broadband Gigafast Speedrun and competition will be announced by British YouTube star Ali-A via an exclusive YouTube integration, TikTok video and Twitter post.  Following the announcement, amateur players will race to complete the Sky Broadband Gigafast Speedrun in the fastest time for a chance to win two amazing prizes: a head-to-head livestream race against Ali-A and a £5000 GAME Voucher. For more information on Sky Broadband and its Gigafast product, please visit the Sky website.

The activation represents the ‘10’ strand of Sky Broadband’s 70 / 20 / 10 approach to building its marketing campaigns and to celebrate its fastest broadband product ever, Sky Broadband is partnering with one of the biggest speed courses in Fortnite, the 200 Level Deathrun - to launch ‘Sky Broadband Gigafast Speedrun’. The course is not only one of the most popular at the moment but incorporates newly released parkour elements to test the speed and agility of the players as they try to make their way through the course of over 200 levels as fast as they can. As well as incorporating Gigafast branding throughout, Sky Broadband have added Gigafast ‘Speed Zones’ and Gigafast ‘Speed Pads’ giving players a huge speed boost and the chance to complete the course faster than ever before. In addition to this, players who complete the course and mark their achievements are rewarded with a custom Gigafast coloured Player Trail.

Dave Stratton, Sky Broadband marketing director commented: “It’s been really exciting to be able to develop such an innovative strand to the Gigafast launch campaign.  The Sky Broadband Gigafast Speedrun was a huge collaborative effort between us and our partners and I couldn’t be prouder of the end result. It’s a great representation of how ‘now’, ‘new’, ‘next’ should work.”

Hannah McWilliam, managing partner at Mediacom added: “We are incredibly excited to be innovating with Sky on their entry into the metaverse, setting a new, bold direction for Broadband marketing and beyond in 2022. We love how this idea gives speedrunners the opportunity to create record breaking times thanks to performance-boosting speeds of Sky Broadband Gigafast.”

Penri Jones, global chief production officer at Hogarth Worldwide added: “The Metaverse Foundry is delighted to be bringing to life Sky Broadband’s vision for Gigafast in the metaverse. Engaging with the speed-running community and the wider Fortnite network of players represents an amplification engagement that creates value for the community and the brand in a way that’s consistent with the values of web 3 and the metaverse”
