Music agency Sizzer Amsterdam releases Christmas classic
Music agency Sizzer Amsterdam has released the catchy Christmas jingle “A Christmas Song for You”, by the Dutch four piece band The Kik. Originally only created to send to clients and business relations as a Christmas greeting, the song proved such a hit that it was requested by MediaMarkt to feature in their German Christmas campaign.

Managing Director at Sizzer Amsterdam, Sander van Maarschalkerweerd, says:
“It’s striking that this track has ended up in an ad campaign, as that was not the original intention. It was created with so much enthusiasm and by such passionate people that the song basically sold itself. It shows that if you work with talented people and love what you do, success comes a lot more easily”.

The Kik is one of the newest Dutch beat sensations, formed by singer Dave von Raven, who headed up the band The Madd, which split late 2010. He recruited bassist Marcel Groenewegen from The Hype, who in turn brought along the drummer Ries Doms. The Kik released their first single “My Eyes Are Still Dry” in April. This earlier success is now followed up with Sizzer’s “A Christmas Song for You”, with Excelsior Records. For the Christmas classic the band is accompanied by famous Saxophonist Benjamin Herman and trumpeter Joe Riviera.

The song, which has a strong sixties feel, evokes memories of family Christmas celebrations. This is portrayed in both the MediaMarkt TV spot, as well as the song’s video clip, produced by Dutch film collective, Turbo Turbo. The video clip, set in the sixties and filmed in a vintage shop, features a family Christmas party in a living room. Festive cheer is spiced up with a live performance by The Kik.
The festivities get more and more out of hand, with typical family rows, drunken uncles and wet kisses from aunty.

The release of the single marks a hugely successful year for Sizzer Amsterdam, which included the production of music for both the European Martini and global Diesel campaign. These were created in close cooperation with Fred & Farid, one of France’s leading creative ad agencies. Sizzer’s work for Diesel was awarded a Silver LIA, and also a Silver award for Best Music at the Ciclope Craft festival, Buenos Aires.
