Sid Lee's Blackboard Day

For this occasion, artists represented by MASSIVart were invited to express themselves on 15 huge blackboards in the Montreal atelier with chalk as their only tool. Among the featured artists were Jason Botkin, Martine Frossard, Audrey Malo, Chris Robertson, Marie Claude Lacroix, Farah Allegue, Mr Plume, Labrona and Other (Troy Lovegates).

 

 

 

The blackboard tradition is almost 10 years old, and comes from a simple idea: inviting Sid Lee artisans and artists from all over the world to draw on the huge spaces spread everywhere in the atelier. They are given a limited time to complete the boards that will be left untouched for several months before being replaced by the work of other artists or Sid Lee artisans.

 

An unusual aspect of the project is that the artists work in the middle of the 350 artisans based in the Sid Lee Montreal atelier. This makes the experience interesting for the artists and artisans, who are provided with a dynamic work environment filled with works of art that change regularly
