Short Film 'Boy' To Be Shown On British Airways Flights

Actor and director Richard E Grant today (March 22) unveils ‘BOY’ a short film written by up and coming British screenwriter Prasanna Puwanarajah. It will be seen by as many as six million customers on British Airways flights over the coming months, with the ‘making of’ film also shown at the pre-opening of the Olympic Games ceremony.

 

Written by 31-year-old Prasanna from London, the nine-minute film is a story about a carpenter (played by Timothy Spall), who maintains the track at the Velodrome in the London Olympic Park. The imminence of the Games forces him to deal with the loss of his son, a track cyclist. The bold and moving story takes you on a journey of loss, grief and triumph. The film uses strong cinematography by the Oscar-nominated Danny Cohen and a stunning score by Alex Heffes, which allows the film to unfold with grace and delicacy.

The film was produced by Barnaby Spurrier with Justin Chadwick as the director and Danny Cohen as the cinematographer. Filming took place at the Velodrome in the London 2012 Games Olympic Park, as well other locations around the capital.

Richard E Grant spent the past year mentoring Prasanna, as part of the BA Great Britons Programme, which provided a global platform for up and coming British talent in food, art and film in the run up to the Games.

 

In the art category Pascal Anson has worked with Tracey Emin to create ‘the dove’ for a number of celebratory aircraft and in the food category, Simon Hulstone has created a bold British menu with support from fellow Michelin star chef Heston Blumenthal.

 

To celebrate the launch of the Great Britons projects, the airline is launching an exclusive airline themed pop-up venue - ‘Flight BA2012’, celebrating the best in British talent in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.  Open on select weekdays from April 4-17, the three-in-one art gallery, cinema and dining lounge will showcase the works of the BA Great Britons. A rising star in the industry, Prasanna is a writer, director and actor. Most recently he was a runner-up in the JMK’s for a Young Theatre Directors Award in 2011 and he wrote his debut play ‘Nightwatchman’ for the National Theatre last year. His short film ‘The Half-Light’ starring David Haig, Henry Goodman and Harry Lloyd appeared recently at the London Short Film Festival. He is soon to direct ‘Spoof Or Die’ as part of Channel 4's COMING UP scheme.
