Duo reunites alongside industry leaders for discussion on AR and the future of tech and music

Shazam and Wyclef Jean Team Up for Cannes session
Shazam, one of the world’s most popular apps, today hosted a panel discussion at the Cannes Lions festival featuring Shazam CRO Greg Glenday, Grammy winner Wyclef Jean, FCB Global Chief Creative Officer Susan Credle and Heads Music CEO Madeline Nelson. The wide-ranging session covered the future of the tech and music industries, as well as Shazam’s recently launched augmented reality.

The Cannes appearance marked a reunion for Glenday and Wyclef, who unveiled Shazam’s AR together in March at SXSW. That came after Shazam and Wyclef originally partnered on a unique AR experience around his new EP J'OUVERT and fall 2017 full-length album Carnival III.

“Wyclef was always a natural choice for our first AR partnership on the artist side,” says Glenday. “Not only is he a global superstar with millions of Shazam followers, but he’s also one of the most forward-thinking artists, in any medium. Each time we work together, he makes it clearer that he has a one-of-a-kind voice extending far beyond music—and Cannes has been no exception.”

"AR, like any medium, when used effectively, can be more than a promotional tool,” says Wyclef. “It can also be used as a vehicle for your creativity. It gives artists the opportunity to connect with your fans on a deeper level. It gives artists a chance to forge new ways to present their personal brand."

As Global CCO of one of the most renowned agency networks in the world, Credle is a leading creative force in the industry and has received numerous accolades, including Ad Age’s “100 Most Influential Women,” Business Insider’s “Most Creative Women in Advertising” and induction into the AAF’s Hall of Achievement.

“Music was the first industry to be disrupted, and so, if we watch what’s happening in that sector, we can all learn a lot,” says Credle. “I’m excited to see music reclaimed as an important industry, and I think we’ll all learn a lot by looking at the journey it has gone through.”

Rounding out the esteemed panel was Nelson, founder and CEO of the female-owned and -staffed indie label Heads Music and a longtime music executive who has worked with the likes of Michael Jackson and J. Cole and even Wyclef himself.
