Singing sandwiches share the joys of potato chips in campaign from Isla

“Sandwich with Sabritas potato chips, the perfect duet” is the message conveyed by Shakira, the Colombian global mega-celebrity, joined by Mr. Cheese, a singing sandwich, in the new clip for the Sabritas Food Pairing campaign, performing a cover version of the hit song 'Ven, devórame otra vez' by Lalo Rodríguez.

Sabritas has shared, under the Food pairing platform, that there is no better complement for sandwiches other than Mexicans’ favourite potato chips; so in 2022 Sabritas, together with advertising agency Isla, developed a campaign as original as fun, portraying singing sandwiches who felt unhappy and lonely without the company of their potato chips.

But this year, one of those singing sandwiches rose to fame as Mr. Cheese, performing an exceptional duet next to worldwide mega-star and new brand ambassador: Shakira.

“When I saw the Sabritas’ campaign last year, I thought the singing sandwiches were hilarious, so I really enjoyed taking part in this commercial, particularly with this track that I’ve always loved.”

During the video, Shakira sings to the bright side of life inviting the viewers to enjoy life’s simple pleasures while Mr. Cheese, an amusing singing sandwich, joins the versatile artist in a duet, highlighting the importance of heightening flavours and life’s moments with Mexicans’ top choice in potato chips.

“Shakira has given us wonderful moments through her music and unparalleled voice. ‘Come, devour me once more’ is one of her favourite songs, so on top of enjoying singing and dancing to its tune, we thought it’d be the perfect match to show Sabritas spirit in an entertaining and musical way. We are very excited to work with her because this music collaboration enabled us to show how even in the least expected moments we can find flashes of enjoyment”, said Clara Contreras, marketing director at Sabritas.

This film, which will air in Mexico and six other Latin-American countries, was directed by multi award-winning director Watta Fernández; with an outstanding cinematography by Rafa Lluck, author and director of several of the Colombian artist’s video clips.

“Impact and meaningfulness were the two guiding words that led the entire workflow with the Sabritas’ team and Shakira. That was the basis for the idea that came afterwards of taking our singing sandwiches to the next level. This time, doubling down and getting it to sing in a duet with the world’s number-one artist”, stated Rodrigo Grau and Ariel Serkin, CCO's and partners at Isla.
