The kitchen equipment brand uses CGI for the first time

Having worked with BOS for a number of years on products for Hotpoint the team at Shadowplay we glad to hear that Kenwood was keen to dip its toes into the CGI waters and see what it was all about. The brief was to produce a sizeable range of CGI product renders for their new MultiOne kitchen machine.

Being a company that had only ever used photography for their packaging, Kenwood was keen to see behind the curtain and get an idea of how the process works. The Shadowplay and BOS team headed down to Kenwood HQ to talk through the pros and cons of shifting over to CGI and to get to know the folk at Kenwood.

The process of jumping over from photography to CGI renders can be a tricky one. There are aspects of the photography world that you can find yourself clinging to and missing in the virtual world – so finding a nice blend in which you are improving upon the image yet remaining true to how it would look is key.

The Shadowplay team were familiar with the process due to previous CGI work with Hotpoint – a new challenge with the Kenwood renders was the introduction of food into the mix. The decision was made to photograph the food elements separately and look to combine them with the renders in post.

After a few headaches for the retouching team (cake mix can be a fickle mistress!) they finally got there.
