Director of communication strategy & group brand director join

72andSunny Amsterdam announces that it has hired two industry pros, Simon Summerscales and Caroline Britt, to help strengthen its fast-growing team. Summerscales and Britt will join as director of communication strategy and group brand director, respectively. They will report into the agency’s managing director, Nic Owen.

The news follows a series of exciting developments for 72andSunny Amsterdam—the most recent being their appointment as global agency of record for Smirnoff. Both of the new additions bring a wealth of expertise collaborating with global brands, making them a good fit for the internationally focused agency.

In his new role as director of communication strategy, Simon will be a champion for cross channel content planning, social spread strategy, technical and data insight and media innovation. He will work with Stephanie Newman, 72andSunny Amsterdam’s director of strategy. As group brand director Caroline will run the agency’s Samsung and Benetton accounts, and serve as joint lead of the brand management department.

Originally from England, Summerscales has over twenty years of experience as a communication strategist, servicing a wide range of clients such as Honda, Nike, Nokia, UKTV and The Guardian. He has been responsible for running communication strategy at several top London-based companies, including Carat, Naked and Wieden + Kennedy, where he developed influencer strategies for Nike and award-winning multimedia campaigns for Honda. In 2010 he founded Rebel Alliance, a strategy agency specializing in fan communication, helping brands connect with and grow fan bases into sustainable communities.

Previously global account director at TBWA\Chiat\Day LA, Britt helped to lead Gatorade global and adidas’ 2013 women’s campaign in addition to overseeing communications for adidas’ 2014 World Cup effort. Before moving Stateside the Australian native spent four years as account director at 180 Amsterdam, where she also worked on adidas, as well as ASICS and Eli Lilly.

“We’re very excited to have Simon here, he’s a hero of mine,” said 72andSunny Amsterdam’s managing director, Nic Owen. “Both he and Stephanie make work broader, deeper, better—that’s what we’re all about. We couldn’t ask for two better people to lead us strategically. As for Caroline, she has a great pedigree and brings drive, energy and fun. We’re happy to have her back in Amsterdam.”
