In the most anticipated reunion since the cast of Die Hard regrouped for the only decent sequel ever made, internationally awarded senior editor Izzy Ehrlich
and School Editing have once again joined forces. A match made in ad-heaven, the move sees Ehrlich come full circle to settle in where it all began.
“I’m thrilled to be returning to what feels like home for me,” says Ehrlich “The culture and creative drive at School are what made me love this industry in the first place, so coming back was a no-brainer.”
Having kick-started her ad-world career as an assistant at School in 2007, Ehrlich returns with a wealth of experience and a reputation as one of Toronto’s most intuitive and in demand editors. She recently edited the much-lauded Gillette spot 'Samson
', which features a father helping his transgender son shave for the first time, for Grey Canada.
Also joining Ehrlich at her new digs is Millie the hound, officially voted Toronto’s most adorable office dog*.
Prior to joining School, Ehrlich’s career in the cutting room started with other people finishing, editing porn until the opportunity to trade abs for ads arose.
If nothing else, this gave her a killer sense of timing, and teamed with a two-year adventure traveling the world, living out of a VW van, the kind of unconventional life experience that all good storytellers should have.
Over the last 10 years Ehrlich put all of her creative energy into her career and quickly progressed from the assistant chair to the editor table. Along the way, she’s picked up more than her fair share of awards, including an AICE Award for Best Editing for Tourism Nova Scotia.
When not bringing the stories behind Adidas, Reebok, Coca-Cola, Dairy Farmers, Coors Light, Budweiser, and Nova Scotia Tourism to life, Ehrlich can be found tearing up the stage on the drums for one of her two bands, Prettyboy and Found Objects. Her passion for music is as natural as her editing style. She sees, hears, writes and cuts in the same sensory way. For her, stories are visualised in shape and colour as well as narrative form. Izzy brings her own special brand of energy and style to every project she works on.
“Izzy has been a gun since day one,” says School executive producer Sarah Brooks. “It’s no surprise Izzy’s a drummer. She has her own rhythm and it easily translates into her editing style. When an editor creates something unique and makes it feel effortless, it’s like poetry in motion. Izzy has that in spades. She’s also a 10 out of 10 human, and we’re so happy to have her back.”
