Apted joins for commercial representation in North America

Saville has signed British director and producer Michael Apted for exclusive commercial representation in North America.  Apted is best known for the groundbreaking documentary films the “Up Series,” and the James Bond feature “The World is Not Enough.” He recently filmed “Bending the Light,” a Canon-commissioned documentary that captures the perspective of photographers and lens makers, and explores the intimate world behind the camera lens.

Apted’s award-winning career includes a Grammy, Directors Guild Award and British Academy Awards. He has been nominated two additional times for the Directors Guild of America award. His landmark long-running documentary the Up Series, began as “7 Up” in 1964 and chronicles the lives of 14 British children of different economic backgrounds through their life-changing decisions over the course of decades. Now at “56 Up,” the cinematic time-lapse series has been lauded by Roger Ebert as "an inspired, almost noble use of the film medium. Apted penetrates to the central mystery of life."

Saville Executive Producer Rupert Maconick adds, “We’re excited to have Michael on the team, not only is he one of the most prolific British directors, he holds an extraordinary ability to tap into the depth and intimacy between his subjects that translates into compelling pieces of visual storytelling.”

Apted’s feature films The World is Not Enough is one of the most successful James Bond films to date, garnering over $350 million in worldwide box office. He has also directed the fantasy adventure The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and the drama film Chasing Mavericks starring Gerard Butler. Some of his other films include Coal Miner’s Daughter and Gorrillas in the Mist. The accomplished director has served as a three-term elected president of the Directors Guild of America (DGA). He is currently the Secretary-Treasurer for the DGA.

At Saville, Apted joins a top stable of talent including some of Hollywood’s leading feature film directors: Martin Campbell (Casino Royale), Bryan Singer (X-Men), Gavin O’Connor (Warrior), James McTeigue (V for Vendetta), Paul Haggis (Crash), Werner Herzog (Paris,Texas), and high-end commercials directors including: Cassiano Prado, Ben Richardson, David Harner, Liz Murphy, Morgan Neville, Peter Sorcher, and Tom Schlagkamp.
