Cheil UK has taken full responsibility for the Samsung UK and Samsung mobile UK Facebook and YouTube accounts, as well as managing two of its Twitter handles with immediate effect. The agency has been tasked with shifting social communications from taking a product-led to a more brand-led approach.
Russell Taylor, Vice President, Corporate Marketing, at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, said: “Our products are how most people know Samsung, but we want them to be aware of how much more we have to offer. Social networks are a crucial channel for engaging with our customers, both current and potential, and sharing information – but we’re also well aware that it’s a very crowded marketplace. We think Cheil UK has the necessary tools and expertise to ensure our brand’s voice is heard.”
Matt Pye, COO at Cheil UK, commented: “This a great opportunity to do some wondrous things for the Samsung brand. Our audience is always on and we aim to dazzle.”
Jon Buckley, head of social at Cheil UK, added: “We’ll be taking a new tactical direction with Samsung UK’s social media to ensure all channels are delivering to their optimum for 2014. Traditionally, its communications via Twitter and Facebook have been product-focused and less about the brand. Our aim will be to make Samsung an even more loved brand among both existing and prospective fans, by ensuring all its communications create and join conversations around the passion points it shares with its fans.”
The Samsung social media account is the latest in a raft of new wins for Cheil UK, including Coca-Cola GB. The agency has trebled in size to well over 250 staff in the UK since January 2012.
