Sailor Jerry Clothing has announced that it will partner with global rock and style icon, Iggy Pop to create ‘The Flash Collection by Iggy Pop’, an annual collaboration between Sailor Jerry and a like-minded artist, inspired by the legendary tattoo flash of Norman 'Sailor Jerry' Collins.
This is the second year of the Flash Collection, the first of which saw Sailor Jerry collaborate with artist and musician Paul Simonon of ‘The Clash’ fame to create a limited edition leather jacket in 2013. This year’s ‘The Flash collection by Iggy Pop’ will feature three limited-edition items– including the collection hero piece, an iconic denim vest. Further details of the Flash Collection and the other two items will be revealed in October.
Speaking at the announcement, Enda O’Sullivan, Global Brand Director, Sailor Jerry commented, “Having Iggy Pop on board for this year’s Flash Collection is a huge deal for us. Iggy is not only a talented musician, but also a respected style icon whose rebellious approach to life is exactly what Sailor Jerry stands for. Having seen initial designs, we are really excited about Iggy’s vision and can’t wait to unveil the collection in Miami this October”.
Iggy commented,“When I was asked to be involved with the latest Flash Collection, I was intrigued right away. I fell in love with the pin-ups. Sailor Jerry’s pin-ups are the best. Bringing his stuff to life for a collection of limited edition clothes was something I totally wanted to be a part of ”.
The godfather of punk rock, Iggy rose to fame as the front man of ‘The Stooges’. His career has spanned almost half a century, with five Stooges albums in his back catalogue and an additional 16 solo albums, so it is little wonder that Iggy has maintained his crown as one of the biggest influencers of the punk scene. Already a fan of the Sailor Jerry lifestyle Iggy’s classic Stooges song, ‘TV Eye’, from their 1970 album, ‘Fun House’ is the soundtrack to the latest Sailor Jerry ad campaign “Life Outside The Lines”, a motto which Iggy lives his life by.
Images of Iggy Pop and the collection have been captured by iconic music photographer Mick Rock, who has been taking photos of Iggy for over 40 years. Mick Rock has shot everyone from David Bowie, Queen, Iggy Pop, Blondie and Lou Reed, Queens Of The Stone Age, Snoop Dog, Lady GaGa, The Killers, and Pharell, Daft Punk and Kate Moss.
Rock is credited as creating some of the most famous album covers in history including Queen’s legendary ‘II’, Lou Reed’s ‘Transformer’, David Bowie’s ‘Aladdin Sane’ and The Stooges ‘Raw Power’, which is considered as one of the most iconic covers in rock history.
This year’s Flash Collection will be available in a handful of selected stores around the world and on www.sailorjerryclothing.com, from October 2014.
