The annual Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase (NDS), is always one of the highlights of the Cannes Lions Festival. This year, the 21st year of the showcase, the reel shall screened in China.
This is the first time that the reel has been shown in China. Screened at the ROI Festival in Shanghai and running from 9-11 November at the Shanghai Centre, with the New Directors’ Showcase on Friday 11 November.
Saatchi & Saatchi Shanghai ECD Fan Ng, who made the selection of Directors for the Chinese NDS reel will particpate in a panel discussion with Chinese Director Mr. Li Wei Ran.
The NDS highlights some of the best new directing talent from around the world. Past showcases have featured directors who have later gained international recognition; Tarsem, Michel Gondry, Mark Romanek, Spike Jonze, Ivan Zacharias, Kinka Usher, Danny Kleinman and Jonathan Glazer.
Saatchi & Saatchi invites submissions from directors across the globe and uses their network of over 140 offices worldwide to find participants.
From an initial line up of several hundred directors, The Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide Creative Board chose the final selection. Only 17 directors made the cut this year at Cannes Lions.

Saatchi & Saatchi Shanghai ECD Fan Ng explained “I think the 17 Directors chosen for this year’s Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase shown in Cannes are all fantastic. I selected the 11 Directors for the reel that will be shown at the ROI Festival in Shanghai, because I think a Chinese audience will understand their style and narrative. I hope this reel will inspire the creative community in China, and encourage more Chinese and Asian directing talent to submit their work for the next New Directors’ Showcase.”
