Nominet and Saatchi & Saatchi have created a social campaign to mark the launch of the domain .UK.
Fronted by celebrities Stephen Fry, Martha Lane Fox, Nick D’Aloisio and James Rhodes, the campaign celebrates the release of the .uk domain for the first time, as part of the broader release of more GLTD's (Generic Top-Level Domain’s). Viewed as a more progressive domain for digital natives, businesses and individuals alike will be able to register with a .uk as of 10th June 2014.
Nominet, the not-for-profit internet registry company, manages all domains ending in .uk (including co.uk, org,uk, sch.uk), powering a huge range of UK businesses and organisations.
Stephen Fry, a supporter of .uk, having first blogged about it in 2007 on the Guardian’s website, will launch the campaign at 8am on the 10th June. Re-launching his own website - the first .uk domain - he will blog for the first time in five months specifically on .uk, generating broader interest and excitement by engaging his Twitter fanbase, through a series of tweets. Additional content will be created by Fry’s guest bloggers Martha Lane Fox, Nick D’Aloisio and James Rhodes.
Stephen Fry said: "All those hours I’ve spent, if you add them up, typing dot co dot uk, an extra three keystrokes that I could well have done without. Well they're over. Dot UK is finally here!".view more - Creative
