Ruffian has released the third instalment of their wildly successful Alone, Together series, now featuring a charitable component.
To kick off the series, Ruffian Founder and EP Robert Herman asked the production company's roster of directors to provide a window into their domestic spheres in a series of 360° films, in an attempt to "stay connected and to keep the creative juices bubbling during this time of isolation." The outcome is joyously madcap, with films from more than a dozen of their directors participating so far, including Anthony Jorge with his ode to childcare, The Bobbsey Twins with their ominous garden gnome, and Martin Krejci's kaleidoscope view of a couple's descent into debauchery.
For their latest Alone, Together segment, third in the series, they continue their ‘Ruffian House’ analogy with a series of connected glimpses into their directors’ states of mind of, edited by Steve Gandolfi at Cut + Run. The resulting film reads as a voyeuristic Rear Window view into a warren of connected room, each depicting a heightened experience of isolation, ranging from comic to bored to cheeky to desperate.
This process of considering what isolating is like in the safety of one’s home opened up a disconcerting window of thought for the Ruffian team. What is the experience of people navigating the pandemic who are currently without a physical home? People who are experiencing homelessness due to the pandemic, or have been on the streets for a long time? How are they able to cope and who do they turn to for help?
Thus was born a new dimension to the project. Herman asked award-winning French artist and family friend Lionel Avignon for his help and he obliged by designing and illustrating a beautiful film poster that brings the Alone, Together concept to print. Ruffian is producing a limited run of posters and t-shirts which are available for purchase, with 100% of the proceeds going to Skid Row Housing Trust. If Alone, Together strikes a chord with you and you’re interested in helping Ruffian out with their cause, you can email Herman directly at email@example.com to arrange payment and delivery.
