As a creative leader behind VICE Media Groups’ portfolio of brands and its large-scale immersive events, Fagon joins the integrated agency to bolster its creative team across its LA and NYC offices

Giant Spoon, the award-winning, integrated creative agency, has added Olivia-Jené Fagon as creative director, reporting into fellow VICE veteran and Giant Spoon VP, group creative director, Monica Herman.

With a background working across editorial, media and art, Olivia was most recently leading culturally groundbreaking creative efforts across VICE Media Group’s (VMG) portfolio of brands, including VICE, Refinery29, i-D, and Noisey. During their time at VMG, Olivia and Monica led creative and design for 29Rooms, Refinery29’s viral tentpole event series that blends cause, culture and creativity. More recently, Olivia spearheaded and launched a series of creator-led events: The Glow Up, the inaugural festival for Refinery29’s Unbothered franchise featuring talent-driven programming from Kelis and Latto; Not A Test, a 72-hour takeover of Art Basel to celebrate Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary featuring Ghetto Gastro, Kimberly Drew, Sudan Archives and more; and a six-part event series in partnership with the Jean-Michel Basquiat Estate’s King Pleasure exhibition featuring artists Big Freedia and George Clinton. During COVID-19, Olivia also launched “Wash Day,” a day-long retreat on Facebook Live for Refinery29’s Unbothered audiences, to tend to the self-care and hair-care needs of Black women in a reimagined virtual salon. The event pioneered new territory in bringing people together virtually and eventually, physically.

She has also worked with brands and non-profits including adidas, Netflix, the ACLU, GLAAD, Bombay Sapphire, Target, and Marc Jacobs.

“Giant Spoon has been on my radar for years,“ Fagon said. “So much of what moves me creatively is here – big ambitious thinking, a mastery of how culture moves, and just a true appetite to take risks. I’m thrilled to join the team and continue my partnership with Monica.”

“Liv is one of the most community-minded, culturally-savvy creatives working in experiences and one of my favorite working partners, period,” said Monica Herman, VP, Group Creative Director, Giant Spoon. “It’s been my dream to bring her over to Giant Spoon.”

“This agency was built to expand the way people experience brands, and when the mission is to do ads differently, you need people who approach everything differently—like Liv,” said Ian Grody, Chief Creative Officer of Giant Spoon. “She knows how to program brands into people’s lives – by wrapping them in culture and making work that feels more like the things you seek out than the things you pay to skip.”
