This time last week DUMBO was evacuating in preparation for Hurricane Sandy, which is estimated to have caused at least $20 billion in damage along the east coast. As New York slowly gets back to business, one local creative agency is debuting a new inspirational resource to document and aid in the recovery efforts.
Big Spaceship has launched
RecoverFeed, an Instagram feed crowdsourcing every photo submitted with the hashtag #Sandy, and establishing a resource for visitors to connect with regional donation and volunteer efforts. RecoverFeed captures and archives the hurricane recovery taking place across the region, which is being hashtagged on Instagram at a rate of 10 images per second.
By also connecting visitors to Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross, New York Cares and the Salvation Army, RecoverFeed is designed to inspire those with the time and resources to lend a hand to quickly find ways to help out the organisations at the front lines of the recovery effort.
The goal of documenting the storm, its impact and the region’s recovery is to help inspire donation and service, and to show the positive impact responders, volunteers and those who give are having as regional communities recover and rebuild.
