Rascal Welcomes VFX Supervisor John Thornton

VFX supervisor John Thornton has joined Rascal from The Mill.

John has spent the last 20 years at The Mill. After nine years in London he spearheaded the move to start up The Mill office in Singapore. For the last eight years he has been based back at The Mill London as 2D lead.

He has led many top pioneering Projects at The Mill featuring global brands such as Amazon, Heineken and Audi.

John brings a wealth of experience across VFX including on set VFX supervision, incredibly strong technical knowledge and leading large scale VFX teams.

Gareth Brannan: “During John's time at The Mill, he built a reputation for being one of the most skilled, most resourceful artists in the department. He also has extensive experience in handling complex projects with large VFX teams. This experience combined with being a jolly nice bloke are a perfect match for RASCAL. We are really excited to be welcoming John to our team and sharing the next chapter in his career.”

John Thornton: “I was meant to write this a month ago, when I joined Rascal but since I joined, my feet haven’t touched the ground. I’ve been having too much fun. It reminds me of why I got into the industry. After 20 years at the Mill, both in London and Singapore, the Covid-19 pandemic gave pause for thought. I’d studied for a Masters Degree in Leadership and Management, helped develop the commercials pipeline at The Mill, painted my way through many award winning commercials and then the opportunity at Rascal was like the missing piece to the jigsaw. A chance to build something new with no legacy to maintain; a true expression of ourselves and clients.”
