I spent eight odd hours last weekend watching the fantastic Beatles documentary ‘Get Back’ on Disney+. I am sure many men my age were doing the same! It’s a must watch for fans of the Beatles and what Peter Jackson can do with old film to make it appear contemporary is pretty amazing.
I thought it might be a good moment to share some of our favourite songs by artists and songwriters that The Beatles signed to their Apple Publishing music song catalogue.
The Beatles formed Apple Corps in 1968 which from which various business ventures were created: from fashion to music and retail… some being more successful than others!
The Beatles did sign some artists that had significant success – Badfinger from Wales were successful in their own right, although their hit song ‘Without You’ actually became bigger than the band after Nilsson and Mariah Carey took their own versions of the song to no 1 all over the world. More recently their song ‘Baby Blue’ was the very last song in the very last episode of Breaking Bad. Mary Hopkin and James Taylor also started their careers with Apple.
This type of catalogue is great for music fans like us at Concord Music Publishing as part of our job is to dig deep into these catalogues, find unloved musical gems, and hopefully breathe new life into them through film and tv and advertising. There’s some great music in there from rock, to psychedelia, to Cajun…
