The Yellow Boat Music team come at you with a playlist to match the sweltering London summer they’re living through
How do you stay cool in the heat? Well, you could do worse than listening to some smooth tunes. First up in our playlist, it's ‘Summertime’ music by George & Ira Gershwin, lyrics by DuBose Heyward, from the opera Porgy & Bess. This version features Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Apparently there are a whopping 29,999 other versions to choose from, but it’s too hot for all that!

Next up, ‘Here Comes The Sun’. We do love the Beatles original at Yellow Boat, but we’ve gone for Nina Simone this summer…

Carly Simon’s heart may be melting in the heat...'Tranquillo (Melt My Heart)’, co-written with James Taylor, and legendary producer Arif Mardin.

Staying with the laid-back vibes, the ‘Sun is Shining’ for Bob Marley and the Wailers…

But just when you think it’s all light and happiness, Lana Del Rey appears with a little ‘Summertime Sadness’…quickly followed by Belle & Sebastian and their claim ‘I Know Where the Summer Goes’

If it’s all getting a bit stifling, Seals & Croft have a ‘Summer Breeze’ blowing up to move us into happier territory again…

The Lovin’ Spoonful might be singing about Dean Street, Soho in their ‘Summer In The City’

This brings us nicely into Martha & the Vandellas ‘Heatwave’….she isn’t wrong…

Eddie Cochran isn’t too impressed with the weather, he’s got ‘Summertime Blues’

Mungo Jerry is more with it ‘In the Summertime’. Fun facts: this single has sold more than 10 million copies. Ray Dorset, the writer, says it only took ten minutes to write!

Kool & the Gang are ‘Too Hot’…I think we know how they feel!

Now we’re moving into serious temperatures. Electric Light Orchestra are ‘Melting in the Sun’

Prince & the New Power Generation ‘Wanna Melt With U’

Childish Gambino has just released ‘Summertime Magic’….given the last few summers we’ve experienced in the UK he may just be onto something…

For Scottish superstar Calvin Harris it’s also ’Summer’

The last word though goes to Rita Ora as she so eloquently sums up how I felt on the tube this morning ‘Facemelt’…
