We’ve only gone and launched an art prize! Why you ask? Well – here at Concord Music Publishing, we are always wanting to share our incredible catalogue with as many people as possible in the creative world.
So we took 10 of our biggest titles – from Pink Floyd to Rogers & Hammerstein, Stravinsky to Krept & Konan and invited visual artists from all over the UK to create a piece that was inspired by one of the pieces of music. The response was phenomenal – over 650 entries from all walks of life – professional artists, graphic designers, animators and sculptors to art students and people who’d never picked up a paint brush before the lockdown – The stories of how the music moved them to create were incredible – it really blew us away. We then got some of the top people in the art world to be our panel of judges including Mat Collishaw, Julie Lomax, Robert Yates of the Observer, as well as Alex Shady from Central St Martins and Pamela Golden from The Royal Academy, oh and Joan Armatrading MBE and Mark Ronson!
The judges somehow whittled it down to 10 finalists – one for each piece of music, and now we are holding an exhibition – to share this incredible creativity, on September 10th and 11th at the prestigious 180 Strand in London – free to all – to come and look and listen to the results. We will be announcing the winner on the 9th of September who will get a £10,000 prize. We hope to run the competition again next year from another Concord location… Below you will find a few of the final submissions, a list of the 10 artists and a play list of all the music. Art & Music – doesn’t get much better than that!
