'Must-See Talk for Those who wish to pursue a career in the film industry’ talk will take place on 15th November from 19:00 to 21:00 at the Sarabande Foundation in London

PRETTYBIRD co-founder and executive producer Juliette Larthe; CIRCA 2021 winning artist, moving image creator and drag performer Joseph Wilson; and UKVMA award-winning director Lucrecia Taormina are taking part in a Sarabande talk designed for people looking to break into the film industry. ‘In a world where everyone is becoming a filmmaker or a director, what does it truly take? This Sarabande talk questions what you can do to enter the film industry and the streams of support that remain available. It also opens up the discussion of alternatives ways to chase your dreams within the film industry and ways to flex your creative muscle.

Billed as a ‘Must-See Talk for Those who wish to pursue a career in the film industry’, the talk will take place on 15th November from 19:00 to 21:00 at the Sarabande Foundation in London. For more information or booking visit here.

Sarabande was set up by the late designer, Lee Alexander McQueen, who left the majority of his estate to support creative and visionary talent. In addition to providing scholarships and studio space for artists, Sarabande produces a number of events, from the practical to the inspirational.

Juliette Larthe comments: “It’s an honour and exciting to be asked by Sarabande to participate in one of their legendary ‘Cliff-Hangers’ with Joseph and Lucrecia. Sarabande is very close to my heart, as is the subject we are discussing.”

About Joseph Wilson

Joseph Wilson is a queer artist, activist and drag performer, living amongst the eclectic East London community. His work explores LGBTQ+ narratives, taking inspiration from his own lived experiences as well as documenting the people and places around him, amplifying their voices and celebrating their stories through his art. Joseph has had work premiered at BFI London Film Festival, BFI FLARE, IFFR, Go Shorts and San Francisco International as well as 4 premieres on global video platform NOWNESS. In 2020, he was selected as one of the FLAMIN (Film London Artists Moving Image Network) artists and had his work added to the archives and special documents department at The Bishopsgate Institute, London. In October 2021, Joseph was announced as the winner of the  DAZED X CIRCA Class of 2021 by Marina Abramovic and had his work screened on Piccadilly Circus, Shinjuku, Tokyo and K-Pop Square, Seoul. Most recently, Wilson presented his debut solo show ‘Fragments Between Us’ at New Art Projects gallery, London.

About Lucrecia Taormina

Lucrecia Taormina, made a splash in 2019 with her music video for Ashnikko's Hi, It's Me, which got her a UKMVA win (making her the only female director to win an award that night) and has been in constant demand ever since. Quite literally as fast forward two years, in 2021 she was triple nominated for Best New Director, Best Hip Hop and Best Alternative at the UKMVA’s. Her bold and entertaining narratives with a hyper - real aesthetic, strong characters and iconic world creations has been the centrepiece of her filmmaking and photography. In an interview Lucrecia explained how the light of Buenos Aires, her tearaway childhood and one total disaster of a video shoot made her the award winning filmmaker she is today. The Buenos Aires native’s work, has often gone viral, achieving public acclaim and also getting the attention on the international awards circuit. She has won awards from Kinsale Shark, Creative Circle, 1.4 and UKMVA, as well as recognition at the Cannes Lions Young Directors Awards, and Ciclope Awards. She has become a powerful Latinx voice not only in the UK, where she’s based, but across the world.
