Director behind the award winning 'Break the Barrier' TVC joins production company

Photoplay Signs Cannes Contender Grant Sputore

Sydney-based production company Photoplay Films is pleased to announce the signing of award-winning Perth director Grant Sputore for representation.

Born and raised in Perth, Sputore studied film at Curtin University before jumping head first into the west coast film and commercial industry. As the director of a number of award winning commercials, music videos and short films, Sputore’s work is grounded in cinematic storytelling, authentic performances and seamless VFX. His background as an editor also supports his vision behind the camera.

His harrowing “Break The Barrier” spot for St John Ambulance has just won TV Commercial of the Year at the 2014 Mumbrella Awards and has been selected as a Cannes contender by Campaign Brief.

His work has received wide acclaim from around the world, including selection as Editor’s Pick on Ads Of The World, Creativity and Best Ads on TV. A recent Best Director finalist at AWARD for his “Horsepower” TVC, Sputore has also taken home a slew of awards in his hometown of Perth, including Commercial Director of the Year back to back by the PADC.

“I’m very excited to join the Photoplay family,” said Sputore. “They’re extremely forward thinking and have a roster of directors I’m proud to be associated with.”

“I also look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with agencies and clients this side of the island,” he added.

“I’ve been following Grant’s work over the past few years and he has really gone from strength to strength. When I saw his latest spot for St John Ambulance I was blown away,” Photoplay executive producer Oliver Lawrance said. “Photoplay will be at Cannes this year and I think St John has a good chance at picking up. I look forward to seeing all of our industry friends there soon.”
