All that waiting, anticipation, the preparation, the banners, the big screens, then just like that it’s over, the World Cup dream didn’t last too long did it? After defeats to Italy and Uruguay we knew we were out, but to finish the tournament with a no-show boring draw against Costa Rica just takes the proverbial biscuit.
Losing to Italy and Uruguay isn’t the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to England footballers, just look at John Barnes’ rap video or letting Southgate hit a penalty. So when Paddy was thinking about the homecoming, he thought it wasn’t going to be fair on the lads, so he went to work putting up signs in recognition of the players return.
Paddy Power said: “why should your country’s heroes come back to an empty airport, no welcome reception, no parade, I mean that physio broke his ankle for us, he deserves more than that! As for the team hopefully they can manage to deal with airport security better than they dealt with Suarez.”
