Charlotte Jimenez, head of operations at Creative Studio, Ourselves has been accepted to be part of this year's team at Bloom UK, the women's professional network. Ourselves asked her who Bloom UK was and why she wanted to be a part of the network.
"For those not aware of Bloom UK, they are a professional network of women in the communications industry who thrive for equity in and out of the workplace. They help to drive important conversations within our networks to introduce initiatives to support women in their careers. As well as offering professional training and mentoring to those new to the industry, Bloom supports Women's aid, with 20% of the membership fee going to Women's aid in addition to regular networking and fundraising events.
"In their words: "To be truly equal, we need to breakdown the barriers in our way. The cultural ones, the industry ones and the ones we reinforce within ourselves."
"The biggest reason for joining Bloom was to play a more active role in empowering women to be who they want to be and not feel beaten by institutional inequality. With the added hassle of the pandemic, my return to work after my 2nd child was fraught with challenges. I was made redundant before I could step back into the office or even log on from home. It was a big crush to my confidence, but it also highlighted how many of my colleagues in the industry had had similar experiences and no one was talking about it."
"I've chosen to join the marketing team within Bloom and to support the events and partnerships team in raising money and supporting women's aid and their initiatives. I'm looking forward to gaining more hands-on experience and skills in events and fundraising as well using my production management expertise where it's needed."
