Oskar illustration’s María Laura Benavente, a.k.a 'mililitros' who specialises in paper craft and photography has created a wonderful scene for Visit Barcelona to showcase this year's Sant Jordi (Saint George) festival in Barcelona where lovers exchange a roses and books.
Legend has it that a beautiful rose bush sprang up on the spot where Sant Jordi slayed a dragon that was causing the local population a heap loads of aggro. He saved the kings daughter from certain death to boot.
Oh and why the book sharing? Well, a bookseller in Barcelona with a keen eye noticed that Sant Jordi happened to coincide with the birthdays of William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes. So he started to encourage his customers to mark the day by offering their loved one a book too.
