Oskar Illustration Signs María Laura Benavente

Oskar Illustration has signed María Laura Benavente, a.k.a 'mililitros' to its roster. 

María is a Fine Arts graduate who specialises in paper craft and photography. Based out of the Canary Islands, María finds creative solutions to creative challenges by combining the different disciplines she works with, photography, illustration, paper craft and design, making her work diverse and multifaceted.

On joining Oi!, María said “I found Oskar Illustration by visiting their profile and saw one of my favourite artists, Lauren Martin, on the roster. I was struck by the agency's careful selection of artists. After years of freelancing having to negotiate with clients and advertising agencies, I realised that my creative work was been negatively affected by these tasks. My work involves an artisanal process that needs a home where the crafting process is understood and appreciated. Being part of the Oi! family who focus on their artists unique style and ‘can do’ personalities over pure commercial value, means a lot to me.”

Oskar Illustration founder Oli Roberts commented: “I was struck by María’s bold and a graphic approach to her work. It’s unapologetically paper! Some paper engineering can be so detailed and over perfected that it could be mistaken for CGI.  One of my favourite still life photographers is James Day, a master of making the mundane look beautiful. María does the same with paper."
