Oskar illustration Signs Alice Mawdsley

Oskar illustration is delighted to introduce Alice Mawdsley, the newest incredible illustrator to the team. 

Alice is a UK illustrator who enjoys getting inspired by everyday life across her travels. She studied illustration at Falmouth University with her work longlisted for the World Illustration Awards 2023. Alice focuses on reportage illustration, exploring different cultures, daily life, and food – highlighting the similarities that connect us all.

Since graduating she has worked with charities and clients on editorial, advertising and product illustration. 

Oi! Founder Oli reflected, “I first came across Alice’s work whilst critiquing the portfolios of third-year illustration undergraduates at Falmouth University. Her hand drawn illustrations stood out a mile for me. The detailed scenes juxtaposed with a paired back colour palette was unique. Bold, yet delicate. And full of charm.”

Primarily using coloured pencils and screen print, Alice’s illustrations play with limited colour palettes, textures and narratives. Drawing on location is a key part of her practice to capture the stories of the people she meets. 

Her love for travelling and curiosity to learn about new places derives from all the trips she went on with her parents growing up. Spending summers travelling around Europe, staying with locals and friends as they immersed themselves into different cultures. These experiences have been a big influence on her work and enjoyment for reportage illustration, learning about different places and meeting new people.

Alice remarked, “I love the feeling you get when you are somewhere new with that sense of the unknown. I find it encourages you to see the world and your daily life with a new perspective, which I guess is why I often focus on everyday scenes to try and learn from the world around us.” 

Alice joins the team of talented illustrators and animators at Oskar illustration who are excited for her to join the fold.
