OnePlus, a global technology startup, today launched their newest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 2. The OnePlus 2 was presented to OnePlus fans and the wider world via the world’s first ever virtual reality experience keynote. Global brand experience agency, Jack Morton Worldwide, helped create this first ever virtual reality experience launch.
Already launched in 36 countries, OnePlus focuses first and foremost on its global community. To engage as many users as possible, OnePlus sought a solution to launch the OnePlus 2 right alongside their fans. “In our industry, product launches tend to be the same. An auditorium, a keynote, and a seated audience. For the OnePlus 2 launch, we didn’t want that barrier between us and you; we wanted to invite you into our world, because you’re a major part of it,” said Carl Pei, Co-Founder of OnePlus. “That is why we decided to unveil the OnePlus 2 to the world completely in VR.”
For the launch, Jack Morton developed the overarching concept to take OnePlus fans on an immersive journey right in the OnePlus headquarters. Together with global digital production specialists MediaMonks, the concept was brought to life using state of the art 360 degree filming technology.
This campaign experience welcomes users right into the OnePlus office, leading to the unveiling of its new flagship by OnePlus Co-Founder, Carl Pei. The keynote was filmed in 360 degrees, enabling the audience to look around the office as they meet the team and OnePlus fans, see the OnePlus 2 for the first time and even look around for hidden invite codes.
Filmed weeks ahead of the launch, the OnePlus 2 keynote was launched today via an app made available on the Google Play store and viewable on custom-designed OnePlus VR headsets. Following the premiere screening, the 360 degree content has been made available on YouTube to revisit the 360 viewing experience.
“An experience not just for select press and celebrities, but for the people that have been with them since day one - their community. Entwining the latest technologies to create a very personal and intimate experience for everyone at the same time,” said James Bennett, Senior Creative Strategist at Jack Morton. “OnePlus stands against a drab sea of similar mobile device manufacturers. This bold reveal is a refusal to settle for the clichéd phone unveiling.”
Bas Muller, Executive Producer, MediaMonks adds: “When Jack Morton gave us the opportunity to be involved in the launch of such an innovative and highly anticipated product, the general sense of excitement was palpable, even more so when the way we’re launching it is equally innovative. The first 360 keynote not only perfectly suits the brand, but showcases what technology in general is doing to change the way brands operate and communicate.”
