As part of its Autumn issue, Port Magazine takes a look at legendary South London boxing institution The Fitzroy Lodge, in a short film directed by Anthony Austin, in association with Mother
's in-house production facility Bosh.
The film depicts the club in action today, over 100 years after surgeon Lionel Baly founded it in 1908. The club was set up to get kids off the street and teach them how to box and this legacy is far from ending as the kids today learn the importance of discipline and teamwork.
Located under the arches of Waterloo this great sporting institution is rendered in black and white, with a beautiful soundtrack by Alexandre Desplat accompanying the spoken tributes to the club and to the late Mick Carney MBE, the “thin, stylish, handsome dog” and “father figure” at the heart of the Fitzroy Lodge who sadly passed away last year.
