Omnicom Media Group (OMG) Asia Pacific has promoted Jonathan Mackenzie – former Director of Digital Strategy at OMD International – to the newly created position of Regional Head, Social Media. In this regional role, Mackenzie will provide vision, focus and enhance Omnicom Media Group’s social media offering that currently includes strategy, integration, engagement and commerce leveraging advanced tools and technologies.
Mackenzie will be based in Singapore and report to Lee Smith, CEO Platforms for Omnicom Media Group, APAC. Mackenzie’s new position sits within Annalect, Omnicom Media Group’s data-driven Marketing division, also headed by Lee Smith.
This move recognises the growing influence of social media in Asia Pacific including the challenges and opportunities involved in navigating an evolving media landscape, made vibrant by the cultural nuances that exist in this region. Asia-Pacific has the largest social network user base, with an audience of 777 million people and a share of 44.8% of social network users worldwide expected by the end of this year. This is more than triple the size of Latin America’s social network audience, which is the second-largest worldwide (Source e-marketeer).
“We have always been doing great work in the space, and we have been chasing a very wide service offering for a while now. We are getting much better focused in the right areas (especially integrated strategy) and there is nobody better suited to lead the next phase than Jo Mack,” said Lee Smith.
