OKAY STUDIO's Ludovic Roussaux Finishes 'Gaucho' for CNN

Joshua Bullock’s ‘Gaucho’ is a hymn to a dying way of life. His protagonists live on the edge of civilisation, in situations of extreme hardship, and the director followed them to the ends of the earth for CNN’s Great Big Story.

The documentary follows Heraldo Rial, an eighty-year-old cattle rancher living in an immense land virtually untouched by man.

Grazing his herd in glacial valleys under mountain peaks and along trout-filled rivers and lakes, his is a way of life virtually unchanged in centuries.

The result is a film containing some extraordinary footage. OKAY STUDIO’s Senior Colourist Ludovic Roussaux graded the piece.

“We wanted to emphasise the harshness of the gauchos’ lives,” said Ludovic, “and the film’s photography allowed us to use the intense earthy tones of the country to do that. The challenge was then to form a nice balance with the characters themselves, their skin tones and so on.”

Joshua commented "Ludo was a champion. He totally understood the references given him and his first export really set the tone for how on point, efficient and collaborative the sessions were that we spent colouring the short. I was more than overjoyed at the results."

Gaucho premiered at the Frontline Club in November and will have its broadcast premier on CNN in early 2018.
