Ogilvy today announced that David Webster has joined Ogilvy Consulting to lead a new Technology Practice that will bring together the global network’s talent, expertise, and thought leadership across the sector.

David is a marketer with over 25 years of experience spanning brand, business, and digital strategy on both the agency and client side. Most recently, David spent seven years at McCann as executive vice president of strategy for the agency’s Verizon business. Prior to that, he spent 15 years at Microsoft as the general manager of brand and marketing strategy for the tech giant. As the company’s chief marketing strategist, David helped Microsoft shape the product, brand, and competitive marketing strategy for products ranging from Microsoft Office to Bing and Xbox. Earlier in his career David served as a managing director at global brand strategy consultancy Siegel + Gale.

Susan Machtiger, president of Ogilvy Consulting, North America, said, “David's extensive understanding of the telco and tech industries from a strategic business and brand perspective will make him an invaluable asset to our team. Given the influence of commerce, AI, MarTech, and the ongoing need for transformation across various categories, he will play a crucial role as we advise our portfolio of clients.”

Devika Bulchandani, global CEO of Ogilvy, added, “Ogilvy Consulting has a distinctive approach of combining brand and business strategy with creativity and rigour, which allows us to help our clients anticipate future challenges and develop the solutions that can have a positive impact on their business. David’s experience and range of expertise will only further bolster our capabilities and the value we can provide across the C-Suite.”

David Webster said, “Ogilvy’s rich history of building iconic brands is matched by an ability to take tough strategic challenges and turn them into major opportunities for growth. It's truly energising to be part of a connected global community of people who are inherently curious and always looking for ways to help clients see around corners."

“As we build the tech practice, there are many interesting issues out there that we look forward to tackling: What is the 2024 version of ‘crossing the chasm’ in tech adoption? How does tech address underserved audiences? What can tech brands learn from non-tech brands and vice versa? Do you need a ‘spatial computing’ strategy in 2024? I believe there is a lot of ground for us to cover and I hope my experience can help this team further push our clients’ brand and business forward.”

David Webster joins Ogilvy at a time of tremendous momentum. In 2023, Ogilvy Consulting was recognised on Forbes’ list of the World’s Best Consulting Firms for the second consecutive year while the Financial Times included Ogilvy Consulting as one of their Leading Consultants for the sixth year running. This comes as Ogilvy’s global creative network ranked #1 network on both WARC’s Creative 100 and Effective 100 lists.
