Juan is the creative studio’s newest signing

Creative studio Nice Shoes is excited to announce the signing of  independent director / creative director Juan Delcan to its roster of talented creative directors.

With over 20 years of filmmaking experience, Juan has acted as creative lead or directed video games,  commercials, visual graphics, interactive installations, poetry adaptations and concert direction. Juan began his career working between Madrid and Paris before relocating to the US to work on TV promos and commercials in Los Angeles. Later on, Juan moved to New York to work as a creative director at Spontaneous. He has considerable expertise in the beauty and fashion industries, working with brands such as Herbal Essences, Olay, L’Oreal, Estee lauder, Crest and Oral-B, amongst others.

Juan’s work has been honored by The London International Advertising Awards, British Design & Art Direction Award, Monitor Award and Design Awards, AIGA, The BDA Awards, The Telly Awards and the Museum of Modern Art and continues to be featured at numerous film festivals.

Most recently, Juan’s anthropomorphic ‘Matchsticks’ animations have received high acclaim. Created pre and during lockdown, they started  gaining fast traction after the particularly poignant “Safety Match”. In the animation, a health conscious match steps out of a literal line of fire by social distancing itself. The piece resonated with people all over the world, generating over 100 million views after being shared by celebrities, politicians, and news outlets to illustrate the effectiveness of social distancing.

In addition to his extensive portfolio, Juan has also worked with some of the world's biggest rock bands creating visuals for live shows including U2 and Aerosmith, acting as creative director for the latter band’s 2019 “Deuces are Wild” tour. Furthermore, his passion for art has brought him to collaborate with globally renowned painters and poets such as Billy Collins, Louise Bourgeois and Mark Strand, to name a few. These interactions have influenced him as an artist and creator and he attributes the raw, powerful and visceral side of his work to them.

Describing himself as a little bit of a “spider” (another reference to Louise Bourgeois’s most famous piece of work), Juan says that he has “different legs in different categories” and likes to challenge himself with new experiences and creative collaborations. Most recently, Juan has been at the helm of an immersive show in Europe - a 25 minute piece on the Spanish painter - Francisco de Goya.

Nice Shoes’s Managing Director Justin Pandolfino, says: "Juan is one of the most imaginative directors that I've ever had the pleasure to work with. He always adds to concepts in significant and meaningful ways that consistently surprise me. I admire his drive to grow and evolve and can’t wait to see what he brings to Nice Shoes."

Juan Delcan, adds: “There are many reasons why I wanted to sign with Nice Shoes. Over the years, I’ve watched them grow as  fearless entrepreneurs, always having a finger on the pulse of fresh, exciting work. I have a deep trust in the company and that’s not something that I give to just anybody. Alongside that, Nice Shoes carries a stellar reputation. I couldn’t be happier to have signed with them.”
