This week sees the return of a few old names we haven’t heard from in a while.
The first is Dido, who became a household name when Eminem sampled her track "Thank You" on his song "Stan". Some of her previous work may have been mellow and a bit subdued, but her new track “Friends” has a positive and upbeat vibe, making this a refreshing new sound for the British songstress.
Mercury Rev, an American Indie Rock band who formed in 1989, was a familiar name throughout the ’90s and ’00s. The band are now back and have been busy recording their new album “The Delta Sweete Revisited” which is a track-by-track resurrection of Bobbie Gentry’s 1968 long-overlooked masterwork – due to be released in February. One of the first songs to be released from the album “Big Boss Man” features vocals from Hope Sandoval. Of the track, Sandoval says, “Well, the only boss man in my life is my cat Herman so this song was a bit tricky for me, but I am so honoured to have been asked to be a part of this amazing group of women paying tribute to such an inspirational artist. I’ve always been a fan of Mercury Rev and Bobbie Gentry, so needless to say I am over the moon to be a part of this project.”
Stargate, aka Norwegian producers Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Storleer Eriksen, are known for producing huge records by the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna, Michael Jackson and Katy Perry. They are back with their track ‘Voodoo’, a collaboration between Los Unidades (AKA Coldplay), David Guetta, Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Danny Ocean. An upbeat and uplifting track that promises to please fans from all the artists involved.
