Los Angeles-based Therapy editor Doobie White stitches together funk-heavy introspection in the new 3:28 music video for Red Hot Chili Peppers, “Look Around.” The music video features the band in four separate rooms moving around to the catchy song as the camera spins 360 degrees. The music video also features a corresponding interactive component that gives viewers the control to move through the rooms, zooming in and out to see what each band member is doing in his room and click on various objects in the room that link to behind the scenes footage and images. Notes editor Doobie White, “It’s extremely liberating to cut to straight track and make the editing completely about the song.”
The new single is off the band’s tenth studio album “I’m With You” which was released in August 2011 after the band’s five-year hiatus and the departure of longtime guitarist, John Frusciante.
The music video opens on singer Anthony Kiedis delivering a roundhouse kick when suddenly, the camera begins to spin around, showing the other band members in their separate rooms. While Keidis moves swiftly through the room complete with kicks, karate chops, jumps, and dancing with his son, Flea Balzary is shown jamming on his bass guitar and having a playful whipped cream fight with his real-life girlfriend, Loesha Zeviar. With his drum set, Chad Smith sits in a bathroom and is seen hitting at a punching bag, plunging a toilet, and scrubbing himself in the tub. All the while, new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer is left with only a chair, a lamp, his guitar to play, and a book to read. The song delivers effusive handclaps, stimulating staccato lyrics, and a catchy chorus telling listeners to literally “Look around, look around, look around/All around, all around, all around/It’s emotional and I told you so/But you had to know so I told you so.”
In other recent news, Red Hot Chili Peppers will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 14, 2012 in Cleveland, Ohio.
