Netflix Favourites Become Personal Trainers in a Bid to Stop the TV Binge

Bojack Horseman and Terry Crews lend voices to a project designed to encourage more balanced behaviour

Netflix Favourites Become Personal Trainers in a Bid to Stop the TV Binge

TBWA\United are scouring the world of creativity in search of inspiring nuggets, unusual projects and mind-boggling cleverness. This week they're loving Netflix's new personal trainer...

Arguably the world’s most addiction-inducing brand, Netflix is famous for sending their audience down a binge spiral. To most people, it's known for marathons -but not the healthy kind.

However, just this month Netflix released a how-to-guide to turn your favourite fictional character into a personal fitness guru. How? If you stop moving, your Netflix show stops, too. It's a move towards encouraging more balanced behaviour by tying access to the brand's services to what's essentially counter-behaviour.

As our society is becoming more conscious about extreme consumption, we’re expecting to see more brands proactively helping you balance your behaviour. As they say… everything in moderation.

This unusual personal trainer is part of Make It by Netflix, a series of projects inspired by Netflix engineers and fans. It allows people with a little bit of know-how to create Netflix-inspired gadgets, thanks to shared resources that anyone can access. With the Netflix personal trainer, you can download files and instructions, programme an Arduino board and fit it into a DIY case of your choice. The device plays motivational slogans from some of Netflix's top shows like Orange is the New Black, Narcos and Jessica Jones - and you can hook it up to your phone or tablet when you're watching Netflix on the treadmill.
