NERD's Yibi Hu's 'Staring at Heaven' Music Video Explores Man's Race for Religion

Music video made for artist James Billett showcases one man’s search for his own God

NERD's Yibi Hu's 'Staring at Heaven' Music Video Explores Man's Race for Religion

NERD’s illustrator and animation director Yibi Hu recently worked with singer/songwriter James Billett to create this thought provoking music video which explores religion and the discovery of the self.

James approached Yibi with the question: “If I searched very hard for a religion to convert to, but in the end, none of them convinced me... What would become of me?”

Yibi went away with the track and the question in mind, thinking of a potential resolution. He studied the gods, myths and traditions, and after a while, he came to the conclusion that the worship of gods may just be the "simple glorification of a past self." He goes on to say, “Yet, we – humans - fight each other over the differences of our past. In the end, my solution for a main story line became clear: a guy searching for a god, becomes someone re-discovering himself.”
