Wunderman Dubai whips up an animated avian as brand mascot in new CG campaign
He is witty, a little naughty, and offers a welcome break from the ubiquitous pharma ads with white coats. The Naughty Parrot, introduced in a new, painstakingly crafted animated film by Wunderman Dubai, is helping a pharmacist offer the best solution for all flu symptoms: Panadol Cold + Flu. Following the pharmacist’s cue, he repeats the singular cure for every symptom, and sometimes goes beyond it with his witticisms.
The film delivers a mundane message in the most memorable way, using a never done before approach in this category in the MENA region. The team put together a multidisciplinary team of 3D illustrators, character designers, CGI artists, animators, voice talents and VFX artists over the course of 2 months to craft the film. From the look of the parrot to the pharmacy, the pharmacist and the customers, each detail was hand-illustrated and then created in 3D to standout.
If you look closer, you will see there are small details scattered across, such as the pharmacist painting the parrot or the playing cards with the parrot’s pose, showcasing the amount of crafting that’s gone into the art.
“In times when thumbs are scrolling endlessly, we needed something that hooks people in one glance. Moreover, we decided to make the parrot a wisecracking one, because on social media humour is always what users don’t skip,” said Pablo Maldonado, Executive Creative Director at Wunderman MENA
Plans are afoot to turn the parrot into a brand mascot, which will keep the naughty going across more touchpoints.
