My Creative Hero: Eric Kallman

Mary Adam is a junior copywriter at Havas Chicago. Similarly to Michael Jackson, she'd call herself "a lover not, a fighter." She's a lover of a good end line, a pointed joke, the oxford comma, and free lunch at work. She's worked with clients including Mike's Hard Lemonade, Yellowstone National Park, Creamette, Progressive, and Moen.

LBB> Who would you say is your creative hero and why? 

Mary> Working as a creative in advertising, there are so many creatives whose work I look up to, but someone I really admire is Eric Kallman. He’s known for tight, simple, and funny comedy work that delivers the consumer message. 

LBB> As a fan of comedic campaigns, what's one campaign you've made that you're proud of? 

Mary> I just did a campaign for the pasta brand Creamette that I think is pretty fun. It’s a comedy campaign and I think the TV and radio is a great way to bring the creativity of Creamette to life. I wasn’t involved, but Arnold’s most recent work for Monster Recruitment is funny and simple. It’s called “Wagon Commute” and it’s great. Definitely check it out if you haven’t already. 

LBB> Range in advertising is critical, from appealing to comedy to saving the earth's water supply. How do you ensure you are well-versed across the board?  

Mary> I think that’s something I sort of always struggle with – how to be a well-rounded writer and not just get stuck in one lane. I don’t really have a good answer for it because it’s something I’m still trying to figure out for myself in my own career. 

LBB> One day someone might will about how you are their creative hero, what would you like them to say?  

Mary> That’s a tough one. I guess say that they admire my work. I just hope to one day be a creative leader where people say I lead with kindness because when you lead a creative team with kindness and humor, everyone is happy.
