Music Seen. 

In the midst of the first lock down last March I was dipping in and out of a beautiful book by Clemency Burton Hill called a Year Of Wonder.

The concept is simple – introduce the reader to a new piece of classical music every day, with some information about the piece, the composer, an anecdote perhaps… Like I say, simple, yet effective. 

It got me thinking. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to share, every day, for a whole year, music from our catalogues? Throw in some ‘fun facts’, bite size if you will, about the song or the song writer, commission some great illustrations for the playlists and voila - a platform for Concord’s music to shine...

So I got to work. 

I’d been wanting to collaborate with Dan at PlaylisterFM for a while. I’ve been dancing to his DJ sets for many years and have always loved what Playlister do and how exquisitely they curate for their brands. He was on board immediately – keen to get stuck into the depths of our roster and find those gems, as well as the obvious classics within our catalogue. 

With the help of his business partner Pete Bowker we got to the down to the nitty gritty. 

Enlisting expert branding, logo design, social media marketing from Ben Mottershead and Alex Kazeem Malaki over at Studio BND Pete also put on his GLUG hat on and is sourcing some of the most exciting names in illustrations and graphic design for our weekly themed playlists. I feel a coffee table book coming on. 

Lastly we chose War Child as our charity partner – in lieu of being able to hold a proper launch (lock down three I believe, or maybe four)  we made a donation to War Child and they will be involved throughout the year in takeovers and playlist focus. 

It is a truly collaborative project that has been a joy to see come to life. As I write this on February 19th, we are now 50 songs in. I’ve chosen not to look at the spreadsheet that is circulated every day to make sure everything is tickety boo – instead, I wait for my IG feed to update and enjoy the element of surprise and wonder at how bloody lucky I am to work with such great music every day.
