M&S Christmas Campaign Gets Brought To Life By The Quarry’s Paul Watts

Editor Paul Watts most recent collaboration with Smuggler’s Oscar winning director Tom Hooper is an epic Christmas campaign for M&S created by RKCR/Y&R.

This magical film is both festive and moving in equal measures. The campaign aims to reflect the lengths people go to make Christmas special by telling the story of Mrs Claus; devoted and effortlessly stylish wife of Mr Claus meets Mary Poppins-007 style guardian angel.

The story is set around a cutely cast little boy ‘Jake’, who has spent the past year squabbling with his older sister. As Christmas approaches he decides he wants to get her something special so he writes to Mrs Claus.

Paul’s edits deliver storytelling at its best with understated charm, pace, emotion and humor.

“Working with Tom on projects of this scale is quite a challenge.  Tom is the master of covering options.  When you cross-reference all the options you quickly find yourself in the middle of an ever expanding equation of possibilities, with Mr Hooper’s laser focus retaining them all precisely.  It’s a plate spinning, ball juggling, seat of the pants experience that requires quick thinking and clear articulation… Phew."

With Rachel Portman (Chocolat) composing an original score and finish by The Mill, the campaign is tipped as one of this year’s festive favourites.
