Michael Middelkoop is a young filmmaker and creative who has uniquely navigated both hemispheres of the creative game. On the one hand, he's a filmmaker. One who has risen from chopping up kinetic video edits in his student apartment for underground artists, to becoming one of the more promising young directors in the game, working with the nation's biggest artists and touring film festivals with his surreal approach to fictional storytelling. His latest short, Netflix & Chill, garnered him a spot in the Debut Competition of the Netherland's Film Festival and a prime slot at the prestigious Fantasia Film festival in Montreal.
On the other hand, he's a creative polymath, providing concepts for various international agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi, Happiness Brussels and Dawn. Moreover, working for brands such as Vodafone, T-Mobile, SIRE, de Bijenkorf and Triodos Bank. His free-form creative approach has garnered him various awards, including a Bronze Lion in Cannes in 2015 and a Webby in 2018.
Middelkoop first feat at Czar is a music video for Dutch artist Anouk where his talents as both a director and a creative are symbiotically merged. In this music video, named Niet de man voor mij (Not the man for me), several baroque-like scenes are mixed together. Both the creative idea and the direction of this film were helmed by Middelkoop.
