The Hot Sprockets are five friends who came together with a shared love of music.
“The band started when Joe (bass) and I made a band with my brothers - actual brothers – not soul brothers!” says Wayne Soper, vocalist and guitarist of The Hot Sprockets. At first, they were called ‘Sopers Dirt’, playing a lot of heavy dreamy rock like Sonic Youth. But when the rest of the guys joined, they rebranded to 'The Hot Sprockets'. And where rock ’n roll comes in many forms… they make the kind that is ‘catchy, unifying and soul crying’.
How The Sprockets and MassiveTalent met
In 2011 we reached out to the guys after finding them on Spotify. “Their sound embodies a sense of authenticity and playful rock ’n roll that can only be channelled by living a life dedicated to the genre,” says MassiveTalent's Casper Nederhand. Lotte Sterk, who is half-Irish herself, adds: “They are Irish, that explains the amazing quality.” It’s always an exciting moment if you find a gemstone among the vast amount of music available. We listen to music from the angle of the styles and vibes we get in the briefs we receive, yet it’s always an extra if you find yourself nodding your head just because you can’t really help it… That definitely happened with these guys.
Milestones
After initiating our collaboration with them we’ve been watching the boys closely and have had the pleasure to sync, for the first time ever, their track 'Cruisin' to a campaign by Heineken, and most recently to Volkswagen’s ‘Dogumentary’ by CZAR Hamburg.
The directors fell in love with the tune upon first hearing, especially as nailing the job of capturing the attention for an extended time span is no easy task. The film follows a dog who is going on a holiday - and as much as the owners love their car, their pet does even more.
What to expect?
In 2018 the guys are set to release a new collection of songs in the form of an LP titled “Dream Mover”. They have three videos in the pipeline and are planning a tour in March / April. Last June they also released some eye- and ear candy in collaboration with Luke Sweetman and Little Beast Films.
What’s more to like? We may not know if they prefer flared jeans or fedora hats (probably both), but if there is one thing we know for sure, it's that you’ll be hearing more from these guys. And if you're thinking it would be great to work with them, give us a call and start singing one of their songs with your best bluesy voice. We will understand.
